A new gliding kite to check out

Lime Green and Black....LOVE the colors....

Lam Hoac 3D Magic Angel
So, a new gliding indoor xUL kite is out there.  The 3D Magic Angel from Lam Hoac.  I have spoken with Lam about his new kite a bunch, but had not had a chance to get one into my hands until now.
This is the small version, there is also a bigger version available as well.

First thoughts: looks like a hybrid between a R-Sky Bird'x and an iFlite.   The spreader is just like the spreader design on Horvath's kites, the Chiroptera, and the iFlite family; on the front of the kite and flexible.  This makes the kite's wings able to bend backwards in large "gusts" of wind/apparent wind.
The spine is sewn into a tunnel that creates a small keel.
The tail has a simple bow rod like the Bird'x and can act as a rudder sometimes twisting opposite to the main sail direction making the kite carve through the room.

Things to note:
Bridling: there are two ways to attach your line.
  • There is a single line that is attached to the center of the spreader, which is then held to the kite by another piece of line.  This configuration is like a iFlite where there is no side supporting legs to the spreader that would be helpful during flat maneuvers.
  • The second way is a clean 4 leg bridle that has two legs to the spreader (either side of the spine of course) and then a branching line towards the bottom of the spine.   This is more like a fighter kite, and can provide better side movements when the kite is parallel to the ground and gliding.

The leading edge connectors are made of simple tubing and are provided about an inch of adjustment on the leading edges....now this is interesting....this adjustment, made by slipping the tubing up or down, can completely change the angle of the wings.  Slide the connectors forward/up and the wings are held at a higher angle backwards; and conversely slide the fittings down/back and the wings are flatter.   Take note that moving the fittings really also changes how the spreader crosses the kite, but the spreader is permanently attached directly to the spine by its retaining line.   So, in moving the fittings you end up also moving the spreader forward and backwards too - this gets interesting.

Between the fittings adjustment, and the two differing bridle options you have a lot of changeability here.   I have yet to find the positions i really like yet, but then i like a more active flyer indoors rather than a glider (if I want to glide i take out my Feathers!).

The framing is light....super light....all microcarbon rods, and it looks like the bottom of the spine, where the tail is, is an even thinner rod that is slid into the main spine.  This thinner spine rod actually make the kite's tail flip upwards when the kite is gliding/dropping backwards and make the kite slow losing altitude.
Super clean stitching on the icarex skin, i am guessing that Heads Up is sewing this for Lam.   There is a funky little plastic fitting on the bottom of the spine, it might be a Flying Wings fitting but I am not sure, it looks like one that is on their Laima.

Flight:
Well, there are options abound.   I have flown this kite a bunch indoors with all sorts of settings and I think that i like the flight of the full bridle and the fittings all the way forward.   But when the single attachment point is used, and the wings are flat this kite is a great glider, albeit a fast one.
*as we are into the fall winds already i have not had a chance to take it outside yet to see how it does with gusts of real wind interspersed with nothing at all...hopefully i will be able to soon.

If you can get your hands on one, enjoy flying indoors, and like tweaking settings this kite would be a lot of fun for you.   If you are looking for a super easy kite to fly indoors right out of the tube/bag then you might not enjoy it as much as it takes a bit to figure out what you like.

We are back, and have new kites to offer!

Karl Longbottom makes a fantastic Brazilian Pipa fighter kite....so....
we got some of them in....
and in the box were some of his newest design..the 6-81!
Now, you do not get to know what the name is from/for until you buy one ;)
But, the 6-81 is a great xUL active single line kite.   Packs up small so tuck it into that Prism hard case that you have your Revolutions in (or violin case), and be able to fly anywhere.
This is a great addition to the xUL single line family of kites.
Grab one while you can!!

Check these both out over at the website.

Good winds!

That gorgeous Bobby Stanfield cellular kite......

You can own this spectacular kite!!!
This is the final price drop on the Stanfield.
If no one grabs this kite up at 600$ then it is going back off the market.

 The neat stuff:
This is 1 of only 4 kites.   Bobby only made 4 of this specific kite.  Two were sold on the East coast, and two were on the West coast.  The other East coast kite flies on Horseneck Beach in Westport, Massachusetts.

Bobby made most of his own fittings.  To look at this kite you see it as a marvel of design.  He designed the kite so that it is very easy to adjust the tension on the skin, that way it looks the best at all times.

This is a massive cellular kite - it is about 7' tall, over 8' wide and almost 3' deep!

The tail is a separate section.   This kite will fly without it, but does look more complete with it.

This kite will look beautiful up flying in the wind, or hanging in a office or museum!

This kite will definitely make you more popular on the kite field.

Are you a Florida Gators fan who loves flying single line kites?  Then this kite is very appropriate for you!

Drop a note to us to claim this beauty!!!!
Someone needs to take this home and display it!

Good winds to everone

*claim about this kite increasing our popularity might be stretching the truth a bit!

Bobby Stanfield Cellular kite

Now to be honest this is not a one of a kind kite; this is a one of four of a kind kite.   Bobby made 4 of these amazing cellular kites.   Two were sold on the East Coast and two on the West coast.   The other East Coast one will not be sold (I know who has it), and the West coast ones - well I jave no clue where they are.
But you could bring this kite to your region!

This kite is in fantastic shape (and truthfully belongs in a museum!) and is ready to fly.
Assembly takes about 10 to 15 minutes and then it is good to go.

If you are not familiar with Bobby's work he is one of the best kite makers out there ever.   The sewing is perfect,
the design is exquisite,
the framing is one of a kind (he made a lot of his own fittings).

This kite can come to you for the price of 675$ + shipping.
A veritable steal in the world of high end show single line kites.

You can find more pictures of the kite here: UNnamed Bobby Stanfield Cellular Kite
As well as pictures of how it goes together here: Stanfield Assembly

There are still some great deals in the Yard Sale, as well as some great kites available from Windswept Kites!

Good winds everyone!

Another kitemaker to look forward to:

Gill Bloom is a fantastic kite maker who puts an enormous mount of time and effort on the skin of the kite she is making. Not that the overall kite is lacking, it is just that Gill is known for hand dyeing to her specific color design and then appliqueing the kite skin. The kites that she ends up with have a wonderful depth of color and design!

We are going to be getting a box of kites and windsocks from her. The first windsocks that Windswept Kites has had. These are special. Perfect for any kiteflyer, or for anyone with a good sense of humor!
Yep, the classic idea of flying pigs. These are the nicest flying pigs that we have seen offered out there in the market!
Also, there is a handful of her Koi windsocks. It can be said that her Koi windsocks are the most realistic we have seen! Amazingly life like (even the size would be of an advanced age koi too)!

Then, rolled up in the bottom of that box is a special packet of 4 kites that are being made just for Windswept Kites. Gill offered to do some 24" square kites with her one-of-a-kind artisitc flowers on them. Great for the gardner in your life, who happens to fly kites as well! These will be great to add to the sky, or to hang on a wall (although they will look best backlit by the sun).

Gill's website is located here: Skyblooms If you happen to wander over to it and find anything that you like that has not been ordered feel free to drop us a line and we can get that added to the box!

Good winds everyone!!!

lost for a gift for an indoor kiteflier???

How about a neat indoor/sdul (super-duper-ultra-light) wind controllable delta????
a Jeff Howard designed kite that is a blast to fly!
i use a carbon rod as a control rod to fly ours-thread your flying line through the rod so that you can control how far the kite will fly....there is no keel on the kite...just a bridle; you can get this kite to flat spin (even with its tails ) easily!!!!
